Project Description

Lower Precinct Shopping Centre reopens with new measures.

Lower Precinct Shopping Centre, car park and toilets have officially reopen as the coronavirus lock down eases further.

Centre staff have been hard at work behind the scenes to make sure the centre reopened safely, both for retailers and shoppers.

Shoppers will face a one-way system throughout the scheme, hand sanitiser points, new queuing systems and shop staff wearing personal protective equipment. Visitors are being encouraged to check which stores are open before their visit on the Lower Precinct website.

The full safety measures introduced at Lower Precinct include:

  • A one-way system to help customers safely navigate the centre
  • Clear signs re-iterating social distancing guidance and people are urged to avoid shopping in large groups
  • Using Lower Precinct Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages, in-mall displays and tannoy announcements to remind visitors about how to stay safe
  • Enhanced cleaning measures in place for all touch points
  • Introduction of queuing outside shops when required to manage capacity in stores
  • Installing fixed and free-standing hand sanitiser stations around the centre, by the lifts and car park pay machines
  • Customers being encouraged to use contactless payment at shops.
  • Signage throughout the centre
  • Restrictions on the number of people who can use lifts and seating

Retailers will be managing the number of customers allowed in store at any one time to allow for the appropriate distance in between customers and employees, following local government guidelines.

Last month TJ Hughes re-opened their home-ware department within the scheme on the ground floor, offering safe social distancing measures in place. The Entertainer also provided shoppers with a 30-minute Click & Collect Pick Up service available in-store, both methods were successful and will continue moving forward
